Our Impact

Nightly meals

Our serves ordinarily fulfill the needs of everyone who arrives, meaning that we firstly ensure all of our people get their fair share. Following an initial meal we often have leftovers for those who are in need and even provide desserts. Our leftovers never go to waste as we also regularly create food parcels that can go out with our community members for others who may not be able to physically make the trip to The Serve.

Each night we log our numbers of meals served, focusing on keeping a track on the needs of the community. This information enables us to better understand who we are serving on a regular basis. From time to time we also survey our community to understand additional ways in which our service can be adapted.

Food rescued

Our partnerships with our community food providers are invaluable to us. They ensure that we have fresh ingredients on hand at all times for our cooks to create and craft our meals. We partner with many local businesses to use surplus food and avoid this making its way to landfill, as well as being a primary recipient of ingredients form Kaivolution, a local food rescue service.

This has meant that during the 2019 financial year The Serve Trust also made use of approximately 28,273kgs of rescued food through Saturday bulk food drop offs. An additional estimated 2,205kgs were received in the year through weekly breadbox drop offs. This totals an estimated 30,478kgs used in the delivery of meals! (2018: 13,900kgs)
